About
Nalda is Associate Professor in Health and Physical Literacy at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Director of the Wales Academy for Health and Physical Literacy and Programme Director for the MA Physical Education, Sport and Physical Literacy. Her expertise lies in developing and supporting early childhood motor development through professional development and parental engagement. Her research also includes curriculum change and the use of school grounds as a site for supporting physical literacy, health and well-being. She has published internationally on physical literacy, motor development, health literacy, outdoor education models for curriculum change. Nalda strategically leads a team of researchers and academics in the evaluation and delivery of professional development for pre-school practitioners and early childhood teachers. This professional development programme (Successful Kinaesthetic Instruction for Pre-Schoolers in Wales – SKIP Cymru) has gained national recognition as a recommendation in the Welsh Government Health and Social Care and Sport Committee report on Physical Activity of Children and Young People. The SKIP-Cymru work has also been highlighted as a case study for the Journey to a Healthier Wales support materials for the Well-being of Future Generations Act. She is a life member of the International Motor Development Research Consortium and represents her university on the Wales Institute for Physical Activity, Health and Sport (WIPAHS) and The West Wales Sports Board.
